Warning: Food pics ahead!

The Planet Sheila Majid Festival 2024 on 2nd and 3rd August was a perfect blend of food, fun, and friendship. While I missed out on the breakfast round of the Jalan-Jalan Cari Makan session on the 2nd due to work, I was thrilled to join the group for lunch at La Achee Porra, a charming restaurant located along Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman in Chow Kit.

It was my first time at this hidden gem, and I was beyond excited to meet up with the rest of the PSM friends, especially Jaslena and others whom I had only interacted with online.

The atmosphere at La Achee Porra was warm and inviting, immediately making us feel at home. The restaurant, known for its unique Jawi Peranakan cuisine, came highly recommended by our good friend Joey, who has been a loyal patron for years. His enthusiasm for the place was contagious, and I couldn’t wait to dive into the flavours he had been raving about.

As the dishes started arriving at our table, I was pleasantly surprised by the bold and intricate flavours that Jawi Peranakan cuisine has to offer. The absolute highlight for me was the Cendawan Masak Lemak – a rich, creamy dish with just the right amount of spice. The tender mushrooms soaked up the flavours beautifully, making it a dish I’ll be craving again soon. The different types of rice served were also a delightful touch, each variety pairing perfectly with the flavourful dishes.

What made the experience even more special was the chance to meet the restaurant’s owners. They welcomed us like old friends, sharing stories about their culinary journey and the heritage behind the dishes. Their passion for preserving this unique cuisine was evident, and it made our meal feel even more meaningful.

After nearly two hours of enjoying delicious food and great company, it was time to move on to our next location. But before we left, we made sure to capture the moment with a group photo alongside the restaurant owners – a perfect way to remember the day.

This lunch at La Achee Porra was more than just a meal; it was an experience that brought us closer together as fans and now friends. I left with a full heart, a satisfied stomach, and a newfound appreciation for Jawi Peranakan cuisine. I can’t wait to return to La Achee Porra, but even more so, I’m looking forward to the next session of the Planet Sheila Majid Festival!

(Thanks to Adrian for the delicious looking food pics!)
